I found pottery while working in schools - as a principal of a Title I school in a low-income community in Austin. As my mental health rapidly declined with the all-consuming responsibility of caring for staff and students in today's educational environment, I started searching for a way to practice self-care that allowed me to disconnect, if only for a moment. Finding pottery saved my life. The mental, physical, and often emotional demands of working with clay allowed me to clear my mind and be the best leader I could for kids, families, and staff every day.
